Mel D’Anci is a sound technician, composer, and multi-instrumentalist from South Berwick, Maine. They will complete their Bachelor of Music in Composition at the University of Southern Maine in Spring 2021. At USM, Mel has performed as part of the Composer’s Ensemble, Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, and the University Concert Band. Mel has primarily studied composition with Dr Daniel Sonenberg, while also taking lessons on bass clarinet under Dr Thomas Parchman, and cello under Bill Rounds. In addition to instrumental studies at USM, Mel has studied digital audio production with Adam Ayan of Gateway Mastering Studios. As a composer, much of Mel’s work uses elements from the minimalist movement; other sources of inspiration include their roots in traditional Irish music, and the folk tunes that bring life and joy into contradance halls.
