Though I've never had much inspiration for composing, I have always tried to involve myself working with new composers and their creations. It always proves to contain unexpected and unique ideas. This has been my second semester with the USM Composer's Enemble, and decided it was a great chance to formulate a few ideas into a group work.

'Der Mit Und' is my first attempt in writing for large ensemble, and it utilizes a few semi-related pitch sets marked between the different instrument groupings. My goal was to create certain timbres using smaller ensembles within the group, that allowed the pitches to stand out while continuously swelling toward the end of each section of the work. All-in-all, it was an experiment in tying motives together in a coherent way.
