about

Program Note:
Despite living in Maine my entire life, I continue to be awed by the ferocity of Maine’s seasons. Each month in Maine is unique and often simultaneously beautiful and brutal. Winter is no exception. On the darkest New England night when the road glazes over with ice and sunlight grows distant and weak, it is easy to wonder Will There Be a Spring?

Composer Bio:
Sigrid Sibley is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer from Southern Maine. This is her fifth semester in USM’s Composer Ensemble. In addition to composing and performing in Composer’s Ensemble, Sigrid performs both as a solo musician and with several local bands in Southern Maine. She is passionate about traditional folk and Americana music. Sigrid is a rising senior at the University of Southern Maine School of Music studying music education with a focus in composition. She spends her free time tuning her mandolin, eating cheese, and reading spy novels.

lyrics

Lyrics by Sigrid Sibley

Will there be a spring?
I do not yet know what the storm will bring
Little bird with a broken wing
Oh, Will there be a spring?

Will there be a spring?
I do not yet know what the storm will bring
Little bird let your heart sing
Oh, let there be a spring!

I can see blue skies in your eyes
And when you laugh
I can hear the brook rushing by
Oh, let there be a spring!
Oh, let there be a spring!
